About Andrea Koesters

Andrea Koesters (b. 1994, Louisville, KY, USA) is an interdisciplinary artist with an independent and non-traditional photographic education. With years of experience as a film lab manager, she developed an extensive knowledge of analog photography, darkroom chemistry, and printing techniques. In 2018, she arrived in the Sonoran Desert, where she created a series of blue-hour landscape images as part of an artist residency program that deepened her connection to the Southwest. Now based in southern Arizona, Andrea lives on an artist ranch in the rural desert, where the vast wilderness, nocturnal landscapes, and regional ecology continue to inform her work.

The daughter of a photographer and a writer, Andrea draws upon this collective familial knowledge to explore the interconnected relationships between place, time, and the natural world. Since 2020, she has expanded her practice into post-documentary fine art projects and book-making. Her zine Machete Ranch, a visual study of West Texas, was self-published in 2018. Her project, Eternal Aberration, was shortlisted for Intergalactica’s 2024–25 Photobook Residency Program. Her first monograph, Oracle, was published with RUST, 2025.
