TITLE: CONTINUATION OF MY ONGOING EXPLORATION OF NEW YORK
My "modus operandi”
I respectfully borrow and partly turn the psalm 27:1 around by saying that the light is my lord and who knows, may even be my salvation.
My modus operandi is simple: follow the light.
I'll take a left or a right turn down a street, seeking for places of colors, of light and shadows. All this time, I let the light guide me and then with a little pray at the tip of my index and summoning serendipity, I click.
In recent images the human shape seem to take up more presence than before. I find my gaze often settling upon someone not frontally but often people are observed from the back, or seen as silhouettes. Perhaps I seek to leave more to the imagination.
About composition techniques, color theory, lighting or creative process, I personally favor saturated colors, strong contrasts, and “solid” [ as in anchored ] compositions [ I realize that columns, post lamps, vertical lines are often present in my images ].
I spend as much time as I can walking to explore and document New York where I’ve been living for 30 years.
Often I return to locations that might offer a potential interest under a different light. A simple trial and error approach. Very empirical.
One thing that I discovered recently is that photography is not only about photography.
It is really a way of life. I learn a lot about myself spending time walking with me. Analyzing what I decide to shoot or not has slowly revealed to myself who I am, what are my fears, what I want to share with viewers, what matters to me or not.
A very interesting and hopefully long journey!
